Warmer Walking

Today I greet you with a nice, warm Hello.

This time of year I like as not only is the sun arising earlier but the early mornings are getting warmer. This not only makes it more pleasant to be up and about early, as I like to do, but it also seems to encourage others to do the same and as you know that is what PEN and I like. The more people, the more possibilities, I'm sure M Cartier-Bresson would have said. Only he would have said it in French.

But something else is also about to be afoot. At this time of the year we undergo Dayligt Saving whereby all the clocks jump forward an hour on a certain morning.

When I was only recenty arrived in this country I was told by my new Australian friends that it is quite a sight to see! But they didn't realise that I had been reading about Australia for quite a long time and I understood their sense of humour - I even knew what a Drop Bear was. As part of my English learning I once set myself the task of translating Henry Lawson's The Loaded Dog into Japanese. When I read it to my school friends they laughed very much. So this time I did not wait up to see the clocks jumping, as my Australian friends thought I would.

But more importantly, what it means for me and PEN is that we have a second experience of starting our walks in pre-dawn darkness then within a week or two we are in post-dawn sunlight again.

The happy photograph above is especially for my friend Peter to give him a little chuckle in these times.

You can see that my recent walkings have been in a variety of lighting conditions, and the photographs reflect that.

That has also led me along a slightly different path sometimes, as you shall soon see.

Until then, please enjoy your cuppas and thoughts,

Izumi.
