Hello, here is Izumi again! And to finally rid my system of unsharp photographs I will show you here what I have submitted for this year's World Wide Pinhole Day, which gives me a reason for capturing one last pinhole photograph which I hope you will forgive me for. I had some thoughts of what the subject could be and decided that to overcome the lackings (to my mind, anyway) of small-format pinholes it needed to be a bit showy and flashy. I know you know that I am not that sort of girl all the time but when it is necessary I can glam up like a trouper, as a gay friend of mine once said to me. So the best spectacular that I knew was the sunrise at the Resting Place of the Ancestors as I had been there before when I was pinhole testing and the lioness knew for once exactly what she could capture. |

But for my own sake I also wanted to try and capture some images that were a bit more subtle so I asked my friend Tien if I could use her again as a subject and she agreed. Thank you Tien! |

But it is said that there are plans that are made by mice and men that do not turn out as expected. To that list I think I must add flâneuses, as you have just seen the reason. It is a good thing that I am not an ego-girl expecting that all my photographs turn out to be happy ones for this idea that I had, which was based on the lilies of the Ancestors that I had photographed just before dawn with the flash on the camera, did not work. Or, to be really honest, I could not make it work. This one below is the best I could manage but I know you will agree with me that it was not the one to submit to the World Wide Pinhole Day Gallery for 2012. |

I am glad I discovered that radiant characteristic of the Holga pinhole lens as neither the Pinwide nor the SLR Magic ones display it. But, I tell myself, it is to be used in moderation only and its quota has been well and truly used up for this year. Now it is back to light rays passing through pieces of glass, footsteps walking along streets and feline eyes peeled for Decisive Moments. The flâneuse with her PEN is back. Also now I must finish printing the happy photographs for my exhibition at Artpresso and then mounting and framing them ready for the gallery walls. This should not disturb my walkings but please excuse me if I am a little late in adding new pages to my Diary. So I say goodbye until next time. Izumi. |
