Izumi's Diary Page 37     Saturday 12 November 2011

From Here to Modernity

Hello!

Here is Izumi to say 'Hello' to you again. Today I can show you some results of following a different track and going to new places in my search for that Decisive Moment.

I think that the early morning light on these new streets is not yet the best for what I like, so I shall have to be persistent with my walkings for a while yet.

I think that maybe I am not hunting at quite the right time of day - I should be earlier when the streets are darker and the windows are more brightly lit or later when the sun is stronger and there are more and deeper shadows which I like. Also there will be more people around at such a time.

It is still coming into summer so the light will be arriving earlier for the next few months. I will vary my stalking times and see what I can find. The successful lioness is the one who adapts to her surroundings, according to Mr Darwin.

Thinking back I was probably very lucky to have the early light and shadow that I did when I first started my early morning safaris. Maybe if the light had not been as it was I would not have begun taking these photographs and would not have met my PEN to be with me on my travels.

Perhaps it was a Serendip without me realising it as such.

But as I have said I was determined to seek these Decisive Moments that I had read about back in Japan so it would have been that I did something about capturing them.

If you can detect a difference in the look of these photographs there is a reason for this.

I mentioned it when I was talking about the Serendipity place that I found, but as I did go back there as I mentioned I might, and so I have some more of those happy photographs to show you, I shall reveal the answer then.

I think you will be as surprised as I was.

Yes, there are more photographs of the models in shop windows but I think the lighting and reflections make them interesting and as I said I had another purpose also. This I have mentioned before and next time I will let you know what is different and perhaps a little bit special about them.

Until then, goodbye from your friend,

Izumi.
