Izumi's Diary Page 8      Tuesday 26 October 2010

A Great Eye Has Closed

Today Izumi is a very sad girl.

David told me that Jeff Carter has died from a short illness.

But I am also a very fortunate girl because I travelled to Jeff’s farm recently to meet him and his wife Mare and look at his photographs and ask him many questions about his photography.

From him I learnt many things and so I hope I become a better photographer and he even gave me tips and advice on taking photographs in the streets.

And I found out that he admired M Cartier-Bresson as well as I. So we have common things together and that makes me happy when I am remembering him and helps me feel not so much sadness.

I even took some photographs of him for my personal memories and I hope you like it if I show them to you here.

Here is a photograph I took of Jeff while he took a photograph of
David while he took a photograph of koi in a pond at Jeff's house.

Here is the photograph that Jeff took…

here is the underwater photograph that David took

and here is Tess helping everyone.

So now I can be like a guide and show you what I saw at Jeff's house and meadows in the country. Come with me and, as Jeff says, "Watch your feet. Remember, there are cows in this paddock".

Here are Jeff's cows waiting for their breakfast

They are very polite cows

Here are Jeff and Tess saying Good Morning to them…

but they would rather eat than talk

The sky that Jeff has sometimes becomes very dramatic

Because it is Springtime Jeff and Mare have many coloured flowers in their garden

Here is Blair after his breakfast

After we have our breakfast I go for a walk with Jeff and Tess to his other pastures

    Jeff shows me a tree…

and a little river that he calls a 'creek'

Jeff's old cow Jack comes too to look at the view

And little cowlet Fergus but he looks at me instead

I like this one of Jack looking at the view

And here is one for making me sad now of
Jeff
in the country that he loved being in

So here is a flower I hope for making me and you happier

And here is one I know the name of - I call it Tall Tulip

Then we have a cup of tea and talk about many things

Even though I only met him for a short time I have learnt so much from him. He was a very kind man with all he knows and made me feel like a long-time family friend not a sometimes silly girl who does not know things but is wanting to learn more and more of his experiences with photography.

Wherever he is I hope the light is interesting and he managed to take a camera with him.

Sayonara Jeff and arigato,

Izumi.
